For many years, as part of the children's homeschool assignments, they have been encouraged to perform a "Secret Service" - a small, random act of kindness for someone in our home. Like I've mentioned previously, when you serve someone, your love for that person increases. How is it that babies are so quick to serve and love...yet, the older we get, the harder it becomes? How do we teach our children to serve?
I think the best way is to be the example ourselves. Do we serve our children and our family with a cheerful heart...with a grateful attitude? Do we complain when we need to take dinner to someone or watch the neighbor's children? I feel our example as parents will lead them down a road to the future; which road is the question. If we talk badly about another, the children's attitudes toward that person will most likely follow suit. If we encourage bitterness or disdain for an activity or event, will our children want to participate? However, if we take the opposite approach by giving the benefit of the doubt, not judging others, show enthusiasm and support, it is more than likely that our kids will go down that road.
Back to random acts of kindness...last week I was fortunate to witness many acts of service, especially geared toward my four year old and his unfortunate occurrences.

A Helpful Super Hero on Halloween! |
Encourage "random acts of kindness" or "secret service" in your home and watch the LOVE increase.
More to Come...but until then, Stick-to-it!
